VOLUNTEER
North Star is powered by the incredible support of our Winston-Salem community and is led entirely by volunteers. Our organization's success is deeply rooted in the dedication of our volunteers and the generosity of our donors. We warmly invite passionate individuals to join our team and make a meaningful impact. To get involved, simply fill out the application form below. As a volunteer, you can choose from several roles: joining one of our committees, staffing our community center, serving on our board of directors, or assisting at our special events.
Staffing the Center
Our community center is open from 11 am to 3 pm on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays, providing a perfect opportunity for volunteers to offer a warm welcome and practice radical hospitality. This role is crucial in maintaining a welcoming environment for everyone who visits. Additionally, we rely on volunteers for our unique annual events.
Committees
Our Outreach and Fundraising committees collaborate on a variety of important tasks including events, marketing, and social media. These committees meet monthly and engage in year-round projects.
For those looking to effect significant change in our community, joining the board of directors might be the right path. Board members are instrumental in steering our organizational goals and are asked to commit to at least three years. No prior board experience is required, and we strongly encourage BIPOC applicants. All potential board members must be over the age of 18. Join us in our mission to foster a more inclusive and supportive Winston-Salem.

Step 1
Fill out the application
Kickstart your journey with North Star by completing our volunteer application. This initial step helps us understand your interests and match you with suitable opportunities. Fill out the form above to provide us with essential information about your skills, availability, and preferences. Once submitted, we’ll review your application and get in touch with you for the next steps. Welcome to the North Star family!
Step 3
Complete Required Paperwork
To finalize your application, complete all necessary paperwork and either email a copy to us or submit a paper copy in person. If you are interested in volunteering during our open hours, we encourage you to shadow experienced volunteers at the Center. This hands-on experience will help you get familiar with our operations and feel confident
in your role.
Step 2
Sign-up for New Volunteer Orientation
After submitting your application, you'll receive an email with a link to sign up for our New Volunteer Orientation. Orientations are held virtually on the third Thursday of every month at 6 PM. Once you register, we'll send you an email with the meeting link. This orientation is a great opportunity to learn more about North Star, meet fellow volunteers, and get prepared for your volunteer journey with us.
