North Star LGBTQ+ Community Center Presents "Queer the Fear: Monsters Ball" Halloween Fundraiser at Monstercade Press Release
Winston-Salem, NC – Get ready for a spooky and spectacular evening at Queer the Fear: Monster’s Ball, a Halloween party and fundraiser hosted by the North Star LGBTQ+ Community Center. This highly anticipated event will be held on Saturday, October 26, 2024, at Monstercade, located in the heart of Winston-Salem. Doors open at 8:00 PM, with the party kicking off at 9:00 PM and the Ballroom Costume Contest starting at midnight.
Queer the Fear: Monster’s Ball promises a night of fun, creativity, and fierce competition, hosted by the fabulous Drag King Roy Fahrenheit. The event will include a costume contest with categories that celebrate the creativity and diversity of the LGBTQ+ community. Attendees are encouraged to bring their boldest, most imaginative costumes to compete in categories like Scariest Look, Most Seductive & Risqué Look, Best Drag or Bewitching Horror Look, Best DIY Creation & Use of Props, Best Horror Homage or Campiest Look, and Best Glam-Goth or Horror Eleganza.
This 21+ event is more than just a party—it's a fundraiser to support the vital programs and services provided by the North Star LGBTQ+ Community Center. All ticket proceeds will directly benefit North Star’s efforts to offer resources, advocacy, and community-building initiatives for LGBTQ+ individuals in the Winston-Salem area.
"We are thrilled to bring the community together for a night of celebration, creativity, and support for North Star. Queer the Fear: Monster’s Ball is about embracing the spirit of Halloween while uplifting and empowering the LGBTQ+ community," said Cindia Gonzalez, Chairperson of North Star LGBTQ+ Community Center.
Tickets are available for just $10, with opportunities to donate more to further support the center. In addition to the party and costume contest, attendees will enjoy music, dancing, and plenty of surprises throughout the night.

North Star LGBTQ+ Community Center Celebrates Grand Reopening and 10th Anniversary in Winston-Salem, NC
Winston-Salem, NC — Sept 5, 2023 — North Star LGBTQ+ Community Center is proud to announce the highly anticipated grand reopening of its facility in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. This momentous event coincides with the center's remarkable 10th anniversary, marking a decade of unwavering commitment to fostering inclusivity, support, and empowerment within the LGBTQ+ community.
Established in 2013, the North Star LGBTQ+ Community Center has served as a beacon of hope and acceptance for individuals across the spectrum of gender identity and sexual orientation. The center's dedication to providing a safe and welcoming space has contributed significantly to building a stronger, more connected LGBTQ+ community in the Winston-Salem region.
North Star will be celebrating the reopening and 10th anniversary for the entire month starting this weekend. The center will be open Saturdays and Sundays from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm. Crafty Queers, held every second Saturday of the month, will be working with tin; the traditional gift for 10th anniversaries. On Sept 23 from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm, North Star will be hosting a reception with sweets and treats, open to the public.
"North Star LGBTQ+ Community Center's grand reopening is a celebration of resilience, progress, and the unwavering spirit of our community," said Cindia Gonzalez, chair of the board of directors of the Center. "We are immensely proud to reach this milestone and extend our gratitude to the community, partners, and allies who have supported us throughout the years. As we embark on this new chapter, we renew our commitment to providing a safe haven for self-discovery, advocacy, and empowerment."
The North Star LGBTQ+ Community Center's 10th anniversary and grand reopening event will be open to the public. All members of the LGBTQ+ community, their allies, and supporters are invited to attend and share in the celebration. Giveaways and gift bags will be given out to visitors, while supply lasts.

North Star LGBTQ+ Community Center is thrilled to announce that we have proudly secured the prestigious title of Second Place Winner in the Small Southern Region Organizations category for Give OUT Day 2023. This incredible achievement marks our third consecutive victory, and we couldn't be more happier!
Thanks to this well-deserved recognition, our journey towards transformation and rejuvenation continues at full throttle. With the generous funds we've received and prize money, we are all set to bring a fresh, modern flair to our entire Center. Picture this: coffee tables, new sofa, cozy chairs, and so much more! We're going all out to ensure that our space becomes an oasis of safety, comfort, and inspiration for everyone.
But that's not all! We're on a mission to revitalize our library with a collection that truly represents our diverse community. On July 8th, a spirited team of volunteers will dive into the treasure trove of donated books in our Alice Johnson Jennings Library. They'll organize, weed out, and catalogue the volumes, ensuring that every queer literary gem finds its rightful place.

These funds are an investment in our Center's future, enabling us to expand our horizons and elevate the experiences we offer. Prepare yourself for a cascade of extraordinary events, an array of new amenities, and the continuation of our top-notch programming, designed to delight individuals of all ages. And to accomplish all this, we will be seeking passionate individuals to join our board of directors and help shape the destiny of our vibrant community this Fall.
